The “Malleta” is a semi-wired combination rope, designed to fulfil a specific function of the bottom trawl fishing. It is located between the trawl doors and the footrope, usually in the sweeps, and sometimes also in the lower bridles.

The Mediterranean Malleta is normally manufactured with water-absorbing covering materials, which increases the density of the rope. It is specially indicated to be used on fairly non-abrasive sea beds. Its ductility makes this combination rope extremely adaptable to irregular sea beds.
